Cirk La Putyka is an ensemble dedicated professionally to the genre called “the New Circus”.
We are trying to transcend the lines between acrobatics, modern dance, puppetry, concert and sports. We are striving to create our own specific theatre poetics and find a perspective on the genre as a whole. For Cirk La Putyka, the theme, the story and the message are as important as the professional approach to both individual theatre genres and circus numbers.
The producing company, Cirk La Putyka, o.p.s., was established in 2009 with the artistic director Rostislav Novák and the managing director Vít Novák, both appointed by the company’s board.
The ensemble has sixteen members including actors, musicians, acrobats and dancers; all members are top professionals in their chosen discipline but they are also able to cross the line into several other areas of work. The whole staging team is constant and did not change since the beginning of rehearsals.
At the present time, there are two shows we play in repertory (LA PUTYKA and UP´END´DOWN – see bellow) and we prepare several more projects for 2011. One of them, directed by Maksim Komar (Circo Aereo) from Finland is being developed. We also prepare more internationally co-produced shows featuring international cast. We work together with well-known groups and artists such as Daniel Gulko, Bonaventura Gacon, The Race Horse Company, Ieto, Vladimir Puzanov, teachers from the Cirque de Soleil, and the French National Circus School.
We play at both Czech and International festivals and theatre encounters such as: EXPO – Shanghai; Divadelná Nitra, the biggest theatre festival in Slovakia; Prague Summer New Circus festival Letní Letná; Prague Days in Sarajevo. We are invited to the Tampere Festival in Finland, Terrassa Noves Tendéncies in Spain, festival Tini Tinou in Cambodia, to Tokyo in Japan. We will be performing at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh this year.
We are also interested in working with children’s homes playing every year two performances of our current project linked to a press conference and to signing of the programs and other material by the performers.
